Last year our race started on time and our top runners were finished before it was dark enough to enjoy the lights. We are looking forward to having the course illuminated with lanterns and cannot wait to make this race a part of your annual race schedule!
To let everyone know, we are making a slight change in the start time for the 'Twas the Night Before 5k this year. We decided to push the time back to 5:15pm which is only 15 minutes later then originally scheduled. This change is to accommodate anyone that may need the extra time to get to the school location in case they missed the change (there are old forms floating around out there), and also to allow it to be fully dark at the start of the race.

During our December race we collected toys and canned goods for the Way Station in Columbiana. They are in desperate need for toiletries and non-perishable foods as donations are lean during the summer months. Please help us help them and bring some to the race on May 17th!!! Anyone that makes a donation will receive a ticket to win a special raffle item! They have requested items like feminine products, toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, shampoo, and all non-perishable food items!

The Siembida & Boggs Philanthropic Foundation is pleased to announce that they have donated over $800 back to the community through the following organizations: The Columbiana Way Station, Columbiana Athletic Department, the City of Columbiana—Firestone Park, and Veteran’s Outreach of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana Counties as well as a grant worth over $700 to the Columbiana Area Tourism Bureau through proceeds from the Columbiana Community Foundation.
The S&B Foundation collected hundreds of toys and non-perishables that were donated to the Columbiana Way Station. Proceeds were earned through benefit races held throughout 2012. Event directors Crystal and Joshua Boggs have planned the sixth annual Vision for Veterans Race for Friday, May 17, 2013 with proceeds planned for a wheelchair ramp for a veteran in need. The second annual ‘Twas the Night Before 5k is being planned for Saturday, December 14, 2013 with proceeds benefiting Firestone Park and the Columbiana Way Station. A new event is being added this year; the Hilloween Half Marathon on Sunday, October 27, 2013 with proceeds to benefit the Columbiana Police Department’s Auxiliary and Explorers. The Foundation is also helping with the Clipper Classic Cross Country 5k for the third year on Saturday, September 28, 2013 with proceeds going to the Columbiana Cross Country and Track Teams. Thousands of runners are expected to participate in the events for 2013 and those interested in racing, volunteering or sponsorship can find more information at www.SandBFoundation.orgby email [email protected] or by calling 330-482-9105. Josh loves to run, I love to organize benefits. We have meshed them together for what seems to be a very successful six years so far. We have surveyed our attendees multiple years to see what they like, what needs changed, etc... And have always strived to put on top quality events. It sounds crazy to think of a 5k race as being as exciting as a marathon but the majority of people we have come in contact with can participate in a 5k and we want them to have as much fun at our 5k events as well we do when we go to marathons.... (Okay...I spectate the marathons while Josh runs...so I know I'm having fun haha).
This year we are bringing a half marathon to Columbiana--we may be slightly crazy but I think all runners are to some extent! And we are hoping that this event proves to be as successful as the others. So in the spirit of planning great events let us know why you have run in any of our races, why you have come back to our races, and why you are willing to try another race we will be putting on. Without you our organization would not be a success and we would not have accomplished so much for so many in such a short amount of time. Thank you a million marathons over!!! (Yeah, my corney play on a millions times over!) As a side note, if you follow my blogging, you will be subjected to my dry and corny humor on occassion! |
